  24.           between two characters.  For example, consider a text string
  25.           consisting of NNNN characters.  A value of 0 refers to the
  26.           position immediately prior to the first character.  A value
  27.           of 1 refers to the position in between the first and second
  28.           characters.  A value of NNNN refers to the position immediately
  29.           following the last character. Therefore, the text string of
  30.           NNNN characters actually contains NNNN ++++ 1111 positions.
